For a healthy reef tank, the following parameters are ideal:
Temperature: between 75°F and 82°F (24°C to 28°C)
Salinity: 1.023 to 1.025 specific gravity
pH: 8.1 to 8.4
Ammonia: 0 ppm
Nitrite: 0 ppm
Nitrate: <10 ppm
Calcium: 400 to 450 ppm
Alkalinity: 7 to 11 dKH
Magnesium: 1300 to 1400 ppm
Phosphate: 0.03 ppm or less
Lighting: Depending on the type of coral and fish, the tank will need a specific spectrum and intensity of light.
It’s important to note that different species of coral and fish may have different requirements, so it’s crucial to research and adjust accordingly. Regular water testing and adjustments are also necessary to maintain a healthy reef tank.
